Most likely old gum brake lever hoods are sticky, or damaged, or both sticky and damaged. Velodelics show you the way how to avoid fucking expensive ‘NOS’ replacements – or even worse, shabby replica.
What do we need?
Pencil, scissors, sharp cutter, piece of paper, natural leather (weak pigmented ‘anilin’ leather, not too thick, but maybe thicker than the one I used), leather straps, Pattex glue, hammer, leather eyelets (including tools, like a puncher) – and: some brake levers.
1. Reproduce the shape/outline of the lever body on a piece of paper
Start with the top of the brake lever and turn the lever to the sides. You will have to add some extra space for a better fit.
